Sick days

It may be quite obvious that I've been stuck in the house these days. Riley has been home from school, sick with a cold and fever for the past four days which is the most school he's missed in his life! The rest of us are fighting to NOT get sick and further prolong the days stuck in the house. In the meantime, my camera and I have been playing around.

I always feel whike...

We got this 80's music hits CD from Wendy's in the summer. Shea LOVES it. This is his favorite song. Unfortunately he's not singing every word as usual as he's also busy eating, but you get the idea.
What a ham. I really love this kid.
He is definitely my little side-kick these days and I know he loves being just with me as much as I enjoy being just with him (while the other two are in school). The big boys (dad included), all went up snowboarding tonight, so it was Shea and I ALL day long. I had my friend over this morning to work out with me and he watched a show on the computer while we were busy. Then we headed out to the store to get groceries and he helped me put all the items in the cart and then on the til. We ate our lunch together, played a little Mario Cart. I baked a cake, cupcakes, supper, we ate, sang, shoveled the driveway, played a little Lego Star Wars, read stories and then snuggled in bed. He really doesn't care to be farther than a few feet from me. If I leave the room to go to the washroom or put away something, he frantically will search the house and scream out my name. It can be both sweet and irritating! Thankfully he doesn't mind if I leave him with dad or the grandma's. He also really loves Sunday school. I can't believe he'll be starting preschool in the fall.

Into the new year with a new you

As most of you will confess...every year starts with the same resolution to get more fit and be healthier, lose weight etc. etc. I am sure I've had that resolution since I was 18. I must say that this year I really am making a huge effort. I am still attending a step class for an hour on Monday mornings, and just started a bootcamp on Friday mornings. I also just bought a Jillian Michaels DVD to do on Wednesdays (the 30 day shred) and started it today. I figured if I could guarantee I was doing some purposeful exercise 3 days a week, that I could possibly see some good results from it. I would love to say that I'll work out 5x a week, but I figure 3x is a good start. Running to and from school and their activities should count for something too.
The tricky part for me will be the food intake. What can I say, I like food! I don't think I'd ever be good at cutting foods out, so I should just work on cutting them in half instead!

What are you doing in 2011 to stay fit??

Meet the latest

Here is my newest niece, Neve Raven...

(thanks for the photo, Heather)

All went well and safely. They are home and I'm looking forward to seeing her soon!

*UPDATED TO ADD...the picture makes that hand look large I think, as the babe is a good 7 1/2lbs. Just right!!

Just keep knitting...just keep knitting...

I think it lowers stress!

Would you believe our microwave died this past week, and then today (while baking cookies), my oven element completely shorted out and made a nasty noise and there was a large flashing red/orange light. Freaked me out...the thing broke in two and that was the end of baking cookies.
Anyway, although we've needed a new stove since we moved in, we were able to buy a new element to stick in there and take our time to find a good stove instead of rushing out to buy one out of necessity. Our microwave we can do without for awhile as we search for a good one and have use of the stove. Funny how easily I get used to warming up my tea and my hot bag for my neck. Also funny how I totally depend on the stove clock, and when G turned the power off of the stove, the clock stopped and so did time apparently. (I was SO late to pick up the kids today!!)
So I'm nearly finished my first Norweigan toque. I have one just like it that G's grandma made for me 6 years ago that I have worn every winter since. Love it. Especially the ear flaps. So I knew that if I ever learned to knit, that I would make another just like it.

I'll take a better picture when it's done...still need to finish all the bottom edges.

Off to my "Knotty Knitters" club!! Talk to you soon...
